Ok so I know a metal head that likes a country band. lol WHAT IS GOING ON. lol Well I grew up on such bands as The Statler Brothers, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard etc. I even saw The Statler Brothers in concert MANY TIMES at the State fair rodeo. As well as Charley Pride, The Oak Ridge Boys and Roy Clark and Mel Tilis.
Now I ONLY like The Statler Brothers and Johnny Cash and I can TOLERATE Willie Nelson. But my love is obviously with Metal FIRST and Psychedelic 60's SECOND and then these other bands last. Now looking back on it and as I listen to The Statler Brothers again I find myself asking WHY DID MY PARENTS LET ME LISTEN TO THEM? I was raised in a Christian Home and Rock n Roll was considered Evil as was metal. And The Statler Brothers DID do a TON of Gospel and all as did Johnny Cash but man oh man the rest of The Statler Brothers songs had a lot of songs about cheating and loving prostitues etc. It was no better in MANY ways lyrically than Motley Crue. It would sort of be like Motley Crue doing their normal stuff and then like 10 to 15 gospel albums too. lol.
Needless to say I still like the Statler Brothers but I find it interesting now being grown up that my parents were ok with than when Rock was banned in my house.

People (including Christians) will boycott the strangest things for the strangest reasons while allowing something else that's very similar, or worst. A friend of mine during grade school wouldn't let him eat "Devil's Food" cakes or have the witch or ghost Lego characters... ...but haunted houses and hard rock and metal were ok. I grew up listening to contemporary Christian, but the only country I spent time listening to was Ray Stevens. HAHA!

People tend to view country as okay because the artists will be Christians (as individuals, not as "Christian Artists") and they will throw in some gospel songs. That can be all it takes to pacify parents, especially if those parents musical tastes run more along the country lines, rather than metal lines. I love country music, but you definitely have to take a lot of the songs as either warnings or just stories about things that you do not want to actually do. I mean I love a good murder ballad, but they aren't something you should pattern your life after.
