This is interesting. Apparently (according to their Facebook), some members of Renascent are working on a new project called "The Slave Eye" and a release titled "Black Rust" will be out soon. A song will be called, I believe, "Gorgon Tongue" (because the band uses the hashtag on their Facebook) and a lyric excerpt is: Oh, and, did I mention there is a sample of the music on Facebook and it sounds a bit BL4CK MET4L! Check it out: The Slave Eye (official Facebook)
P.S. I'm putting this here for now in the hopes that this is a Christian black metal release!

Oh wow, they took the post down on the Renascent page and The Slave Eye page took the sample video down... maybe they're still tweaking it or something... anyway, this is interesting.

There's a video sample on there. And... I like it! It's... vague, but I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing more!

Okay yeah they put the video back up. It was originally uploaded to Facebook only but now it's on YouTube. That means I can link it here now:

I LOVE the sound of that teaser!
...if only it was more than fourteen seconds long.

According to the Facebook -page it seems like an international project, the "hometown" being Raleigh, NC. Interesting. Should have good quality musicians from the finnish side at least

Really hard to tell from such a short teaser but it sounded pretty decent to me! I'm looking forward to hearing more from them!

Well, the two-song demo is available on Bandcamp already. I'm spending time with the wife right now but I'll buy and download it later (and try to figure out if it's a Christian release lol). theslaveeye.bandcamp.com/album/black-rust

I haven't had a chance to purchase this yet (I will later today), but this could be where the band name came from (if it's Christianity-inspired):
"And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye's sake." (Ex. 21:26)

^ Makes sense! Very interesting idea for a band name.
I like the music! I might be imagining things, but do I hear some... metalcore influences in this?

Hmm I don't know yet, I just listened to about 20 seconds of the first song and immediately bought it. It is good. I'll listen to the rest on the way back to work (I'm on lunch).

^thanks for the reference
I like it a lot... I guess "melodic black metal" is how I'd categorize... the atmosphere reminds me a bit of Slechtvalk's "A Forlorn Throne" but maybe a tad darker but DEFINITELY groovy in a black metal sort of way.
Definitely looking forward to a full-length.

Anyone still on the fence due to lyrical concerns: I messaged the band on Facebook today to ask for the lyrics and I received a response very quickly that said they will be posted on bandcamp tonight. "Black Stone Idol" I am pretty sure is about the Black Stone in Mecca ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Stone) but we will see.

Good guess. It is indeed about that very black stone. Interesting to appoint such things in your lyrics. I don't understand the other lyrics though. Not even a real clue.

So the band made a Facebook post that contained a code, and the first person to redeem it at Bandcamp would get the demo for free. The post was made two days ago, but I still tried it, and it worked!
Thanks Slave Eye guys, if you're somehow here and reading this!

Wahoo! The code also worked for me. Just downloaded and am excited to hear! I listened to a couple samples and after reading CW's review, I'm particularly excited for this one!
