:nocturnal's comment about Win98 in the shoutbox inspired this discussion:
I'd say WinXP is probably my favorite OS of all time but that's just because it was the first one from Microsoft that was half-stable thus a landmark. Also I have come around & rather like 8.1 (7 was also good but Vista can take a long walk off a short pier).
What are your favorites and why?

I never had a good experience with XP, but maybe that's just because the computer that I had that ran it was extremely slow. I thought 7 was good whenever I used it, but I never owned a computer that ran it. I hated 8 at first but started to get used to it eventually, but even still, it annoyed me a lot and I don't think it was a good OS. Better suited for mobile devices. My new computer runs 10, and I'm digging it.
For me, it's a tie between 7 and 10 for favorite.

Yup, XP for me as well. It was simple and streamline I thought.

Vista can take a long walk off a short pier What is everyone's problem with Vista, anyway?

I'm not an obsessive Apple fanboy, but at this point in my life, I find myself preferring the Apple experience to ANY Windows version. For me, it just WORKS. I'm also not a "power user" type, either though.

Vista can take a long walk off a short pier What is everyone's problem with Vista, anyway? Seemed to have compatibility issues and I didn't care for the interface either. Could be isolated incidents creating bias though and I can admit it.

My favorite OS is Windows 3.DOS because of how hilarious it is.
...but in all seriousness, Windows 98 is pretty much the foundation of my Windows understanding. (Which let's face it, the better understanding I have of software, the more I enjoy it)
I really do dig Windows 8.1 because it's pretty solid, but I've totally classic-mode'ed the crap out of mine. (Runs like 98 interface) 98, XP and 7 had some limitations/complications that they've fixed since then. Used Vista on work PCs and never had issues. Just seemed like a mix of XP and 7.
