I was in Hungary the last couple of days so I thought I'd look to see what kind of black metal they've got and stumbled upon Gire. Pretty sweet stuff! It was a project from the guy who's more known for his band Thy Catafalque (who I need to check out also). I think you guys would really dig this stuff: pretty spacey, folky, extreme, melodic, and creative.

Hungarian black metal? No other than Marblebog: (first song posted here musically an obvious influence on the Through the Thorns album)

That keyboard makes me lawl. Want to like BECAUSE of the keyboard. So ridiculous...... Aww I really dig the keys! They've got that 70's prog feel but maybe even zanier.

I could see Gire describing their sound.
"The vocals are guttural and extreme. The guitars are punishing and complicated. The drumming is blistering and varied. The keys... um... have got a 70's prog feel but even zanier, but they'll still tear out your spine."

That Marblebog is pretty bad ass.
I'm waiting for someone to start a Turkish black metal thread so I can talk about Moribund Oblivion.

So this weekend we were near a Rasputin Records (indie record shop) so I brought some of my old movies I never watch to sell and actually got $17 for 'em which was much more than I thought! They had Gire's album which was the only thing on my want-list at the store so I bought it. I have listened to it once through and I'm really digging it. The song I posted is a pretty good representation of what the whole album is like. It's a very dense album with a lot going on and I look forward to picking up on the subtleties with repeat listens.
