My wife listens to country, and lately Florida Georgia Line's "H.O.L.Y." track has been on the playlist. I'm posting the video rather than just the lyrics for two reasons. For one, to see that the lyrics are about a woman. For two, it's a solid track. It sounds great and it's beautiful. Trust me, it worth watching and listening to even if you hate country.
I'll just get this thread started by saying if you replaced the word "babe" with "Jesus", you'd have the ultimate praise and worship song.
He describes "her" as "H.O.L.Y" (says the word "holy", not the letters in order) "I'm H.igh O.n L.oving Y.ou" Says "you're the river I was baptized in". "You're my kind of church" "You make me want to say hallelujah" (LOL)
I'm torn on thinking this really IS a worship song in disguise, or that this is a modern representation of putting another human as... well... Godlike.
Opinions?

Just watched the entire video, and it's really hard to say which it is. I'm leaning more towards thinking that this is some kind of next-level idolatry. Looking at Wikipedia, it seems that both guys in this band were active churchgoers when they were younger, so there has definitely been at least some sort of Christian influence in their lives, and it's very possible that they're still Christians today, but this song's lyrics are just...strange.

I've heard that song. It doesn't sound bad at all. In terms of lyrics, it's like a... less tasteful version of this song. In both, they're using worship metaphors, but in FGL's, what gets me are the lines "Let me lay you down, give me to ya / Get you singing babe, hallelujah" I wouldn't say this is a worship song in disguise. FGL are one of multiple examples of mainstream artists whose music I like, but usually not their lyrics.
