Screamo is different because the vocals are more screaming rather than the yelling that old-school hardcore bands use. I think there's some kind of instrumental difference too. I hear an aesthetic difference between bands, but not enough for me to consider it a seperate genre. A genre definitely shouldn't be coined because it's "screaming" instead of "yelling" or "shouting"... which is what I think happened with what's called screamo. I would still definitely consider Living Sacrifice's Inhabit album as death metal, even though there's not a single growl on that album.

The original descriptor for screamo was "emotional hardcore" so yeah it is typically very hardcore sounding. That's redundant though. Hardcore is emotional music. It's like saying there's black metal and then harsh black metal. For the most part, especially to the layman, black metal is harsh... lolwut These sub sub sub genre names are getting a bit ridiculous. Have you heard the new DuctTaped BurtReynolds? Its Creamo which is like a hardcore free screamo about milk.

Debtor sounds pretty cool.
I think the thing that makes Ampere more screamo than hardcore (other than the vocals, and correct me if I'm wrong please, Vociferator) is parts like this:

Yeah... That's still just hardcore to me.
