Dissection was kind of meh, but Unearthed is definitely a classic. One of the best Christian death metal releases, in my opinion...

Agreed, Unearthed is their best album. Definitely a classic along with Mortification's - scrolls of the megilloth.

Might as well put Disencumbrance's demo as one of the best too.

I'm not the biggest death metal fan but I have heard that these guys are really good... Now that their albums will be re-released, I may snag them up. Is there a particular song that I should listen to that'll make me want to buy them? [actually]

You haven't heard Crimson Thorn bro? Man, the entire Unearthed album is a real gem. Death metal from the mid 90s, but it's aged really well. Some of the best blasting I've heard as well.

Might as well put Disencumbrance's demo as one of the best too. I do not know them, But I will check them out if I find them on youtube. Over here in Europe I think Extol and Groms should be mentioned as pioneers in Christian Death Metal.

Disencumbrance is hands down the best Christian death metal I've heard. Its technical, heavy, fast... very, very good. Its disappointing there's only this demo though. This is the full demo - definitely worth your time.
Extol would certainly be a melodic death metal pioneer. GROMS is good, but in my opinion, they're lacking too much in the drum department for me to file them under "pioneer".
I had some old Pale Horse cassettes that were unbelievably good as well.

Sounds pretty good for what it is though not my style. For death metal, I tend to like the more proggy stuff like Becoming The Archetype, Pantokrator, or Vardoger.
Do you guys like Indwelling? I have a feeling y'all might like them.

I always felt Groms was a bit doomy death metal

I got the GROMS album because it was listed as doom/death though I think the doom is pretty minor (as you said, "a bit doomy"). I very rarely find myself listening to it. Hmm, maybe I should put it up for sale since it's so rare...

I don't think I've ever listened to GROMS, but if you want to give "doomy" death metal a try, you'd probably like Abomínio if the like, two YT samples I can find are anything to go by.

I liked GROMS because I liked the riffs, and the really thick bass

Like Kerrick, I mostly like proggy DM. Sometimes I venture into tech death (e.g., Sympathy) or melodeath (e.g., Immortal Souls, Lament, Feast Eternal). I don't do a lot of (what do we call it?) vanilla death. (J/K!) I do like Indwelling quite a bit. I received Bloodwork for Christmas and really like that one. (Someone on here said recently they don't seem to get as much recognition as they deserve. I agree.) Two of Disencumbrance's tracks from their (three track) demo can be downloaded on their Reverbnation page. Don't really know too much about Crimson Thorn other than the discs are rare. I'll have to check them out.

I saw that the new Crimson Thorn anthology is out. Initially saw it pop up on eBay.
