I get that we change what we call our favorites over time and I get that some people don't even do the favorite thing. If you do, what are your top ten favorite LP/EPs of all time? Notes (e.g., why?) are welcome.
Here are mine: War All The Time - Thursday Horses In The Sky - Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra And Tra-La-La Band Valtari - Sigur Rós Live At The Banks House - Will Reagan & The United Pursuit Riceboy Sleeps - Jonsi & Alex Out Of Darkness - In The Midst Of Lions Requiem Mezzo Forte - Virgin Black s/t - This Will Destroy You s/t - A Thousand Times Repent F♯ A♯ ∞ - Godspeed You! LOL! I think about more writing more posts than I actually write. I thought about this post quite a bit. It's just really hard! Since you prodded . . .
It's easier for me to think of bands than albums. Sometimes the historical importance seems to surpass contemporary listens. Also, I think favorite can mean different things. So I'll make a start to a list, just for the sake of fun, and then we'll see what happens after that.
Drottnar - Welterwerk (mentioned that in a different thread) Joy Electric - Melody (but would be happy with White Song Book or Ministry of Archers) Starflyer 59 - Silver (but would be happy with Leave Here a Stranger or any album from Changing of the Guard onwards) Arvo Pärt - Spiegel im Spiegel (but would be happy with Fratres or Last Sleep of the Virgin with John Tavener)
vying for roles: Philip Glass (Glassworks, or Symphonies 2 & 3, or Piano Works) Gorecki - Symphony #3 Faure - Requiem/ Pelleas et Melisande Celeste - Nihiliste (S) Downfall of Gaia - Aeon Unveils the Thrones of Decay Erasmus - Memento Mori . . . (But would be happy with Sanguinus Nocturnus) Daniel Amos - Fredrick Buechner's Dream L.S.U. - Shaded Pain
Based on my iTunes listening: Extol - Undeceived Zao - Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest Opeth - Blackwater Park ISIS - Oceanic Russian Circles - Geneva
Would be nice to have something by: KARP, the Pixies, Sonic Youth, Oathbreaker, Wovenhand, fluffy/Duraluxe, Vials of Wrath, . . .
As I look at this, individual tracks would be a different discussion. This is enough to continue the conversation anyway.

I’ll bite, in no particular order:
Tourniquet - Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance (Introduction to Christian metal, still holds serve after all these years) Petra - Beyond Belief (My father’s favorite Petra album that still sticks with me. I just listened to it through with my boys and it brought tears to my eyes, both from the lyrics and seeing them “headbang”) Metallica - Ride the Lightning (This album got me through residency, incredible album. Thanks Guitar Hero!) Rich Mullins - Songs (I don’t care if it’s a compilation, fight me. So unbelievably worshipful) Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (Best rap album I’ve ever really, really listened to. So much emotion and so real) Master and Commander - The Far Side of the World (Soundtrack) (This album is still #1 on my iTunes plays. So, so very good and the movie is amazing to boot) Arcade Fire - Neon Bible (A band that has meant so much to me. I had to pick one right?) U2 - The Joshua Tree (Probably the best album of all time. I hated them when I was a teenager, but as I got older I grew to love them and grabbed all of their stuff. I keep coming back to this album.) Daft Punk - Discovery (The pinnacle of EDM for me. Every track is amazing) Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More (Fell in love with my wife to this album)
Man, so many stories and so many emotions associated with these. Glad you didn’t ask for songs... So many more that I love that aren’t in the Top 10. Next 10 Thread? Genre specific threads?

such a hard question because it depents on my mood a lot but let´s give it a shoot. Also in no particular order ^_^ Linkin Park - Meteora (it´s basically my introduction into the world of rock) Bathory - Nordland I & II (such epicness and pure emotion was almost too much for the 14 year old me, and it still hits me hard everytime I listen to it) Wovenhand - Mosaic (just found out about them in 2017 and they´ve become one of my favorite bands) Bethlehem - Dictius te necare (the obscure cryptic lyrics helped me through some awful time; back when I used to work everyday/whole-day like crazy for nothing, these guys inspired me to take my music to another level especially my vocal approach) Xasthur – Subliminal Genocide (thanks to music like this I started to undestand a lot about the darkness inside of us, in some crazy way it showed me where the nature of flesh is leading us..total darkness) BLUT AUS NORD - 777 - The Desanctification (with Deathspell omega & Urfaust a bottomless pit of inspiration) A Hill to Die Upon - Omens (my favorite christian extreme metal band, high quality, uncompromised and blood boiling) K-rino - Time traveler (a artist I´ve started listening to 5 years ago when I got reborn, although the dude is muslim he made me think about a lot of things) Cerimonial Sacred - Our War Is Only Against Hell (are words needed? the song "To Find the King" always makes me tear up) Azam Ali - Elysium For the Brave (just pure beauty) Was very hard to choose only 10, athough I can say that these 10albums had a great impact on me, in one way or another.

Poooooh - tough question. In no particular order (and I surely missed something...): Saviour Machine - S/T (why did they not stay on that path??); Immortal Souls - Ice Upon The Night; Slechtvalk - Falconry (just great, gives me emotional showers on every listen) + The War That Plagues The Lands; Snubnose - Jesus (my very first Hard Music Album) + Second Hand; Tourniquet - Stop The Bleeding; Seventh Angel - Lament For The Weary (a Milestone on my way to metal, I still remember my first listening when I borrowed it from my Brother-in-law); Holy Blood - Waves Are Dancing; Wovenhand - Refractory Obdurate;

julienbakerfan nice! Things about stuff: I saw mewithoutYou live though I went for Thursday and they were fun and I especially enjoyed some song about sweaters; I only have one The National album and its that one (per my iTunes, looks like I got it in December 2011); I borrowed a The Smiths album from the library (*checks iTunes* The Queen Is Dead) because I loved the movie Garden State and they were mentioned or whatever; looks like I got Fleet Foxes self-titled album from the library too once upon a time but I really only listen to their song White Winter Hymnal; I should probably just buy that Julien Baker album -- it was a toss up to purchase that one or Turn Out The Lights when I 'decided to become a fan' ha and I went with the latter and love it (actually i probably got that one because the single about depression really resonated with me and Levi The Poet had it on some list of favorite albums for the year); I don't know the Refused; so my sister had O and 9 by Damien Rice and I remember being in her room and deciding which to download onto my iTunes and for no reason I went with 9 and it's absolutely amazing and i'm sure O is just as too; one time I listened to the laundry room song by the Avett Brothers on repeat for a while but I never tried out one of their albums; I never really got into Radiohead despite it probably being up my alley from back in the day; I got a Weezer album when I was pretty young and I'm not sure why, maybe it was the one with the Beverely Hills single I heard on the radio. I hope anyone who reads the above enjoys the chunkiness of the chunk of text I shoudlve made easier to read.
