Cling to God. He's a good and present father. Summary: God's love never fails and is always present for us; we don't have to hide or have fear; we can run to Him, like a child running into the arms of her father.

As I struggle with focus and motivation and self-confidence and a workload:
King David said to his son, who was preparing to work on the service of the temple of the Lord: "Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you." (1 Chronicles 28) I'm not building the Lord's temple, but I am trying to walk the path He put before me. Oh Lord, please quicken me according to your word (Psalm 119); help me to have a mind to work and please, O God, strengthen my hands. (Nehemiah 4)

I know everyone has different praise music preferences. Nevertheless, this song has recently helped me 'keep on keepin' on', as they say.

Keep pursuing God, knowing that He is with you, where you are, helping you to do so. Keep pursuing your path (Proverbs 4:25-27), the one the sovereign God has laid before you, with persistence, knowing that He is with you, where you are, helping you to do so. His strength will provide for you to do that which is necessary for you to do in this season. Keep trying to do your best and accomplish what God has set before you and on your heart to accomplish, all the while having peace knowing that Jesus, for you and your family and your goals and your life, is enough.

From Psalm 56 when David was captured by his enemies, "When I am afraid, I put my trust in you." I appreciate the seeming simple causality here: fear --> trust. Keep fighting/loving/working/pursuing & trusting. retweet

It was very random that I thought of this video .. perhaps somebody here would benefit from the message. Wait on the Lord, brothers, as we strive to obey Him whom we know is true. Lord, restore to me the joy of my salvation.

I like this. Reminds me of something shared in recovery circles, but your "questions to ask before giving up" is definitely more thorough. This "recovery folklore" - you may have heard HALT - Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired - likewise, I've heard "Serious" on the same list (as SHALT or HALTS) Its a pretty basic approach, but very effective. If you're hungry, eat. If you're angry, pray. The opposite of anger is patience and love. If you're lonely, talk to someone. Do something for someone else. If you're tired, rest. If you're (too) serious, lighten up. Jokes are good. Laughing is also good. I'm thinking about the worst days I've had over the past few years - how I felt physically certainly played a part. I was more prone to be in a bad mood if I was in pain, or uncomfortable - likewise, I was more likely to announce it as a "bad day" rather than a "bad moment" when I didn't feel good.

Yeah! I heard of HALTs (from a Terry Cruise 5 tips for self-discipline video ha) and I find it helpful too. I use it a little bit but could do so a lot more. Adding 'serious' sounds reasonable to me as well.
I really like the attitudinal shift of 'having a bad day' to 'having a bad moment'. Maybe I'll start that change with chunking the day into morning, afternoon, and evening.

"...thou doest his work, who is able and assuredly will bear thee out. There is a crown of glory proposed unto thee above all conceit of merit; stick fast unto his word, and suffer nothing to divide thee from it. Rest upon his promises though he seem to kill them; cleave unto his statutes though the flesh lust, the world allure, the devil tempt by flatteries or threatenings to the conctrary." - John Ball, 1632

"Well, on Saturday, about midnight, they began to pray, and continued in prayer till almost break of day. Now, a little before it was day, good Christian, as one half-amazed, brake out in this passionate speech: What a fool, quoth he, am I, thus to lie in a stinking dungeon, when I may as well walk at liberty! I have a key in my bosom, called Promise, that will, I am persuaded, open any lock in Doubting Castle. Then said Hopeful, That is good news, good brother; pluck it out of thy bosom, and try." - The Pilgrim's Progress, 1678

"The Christian of all men needs courage and resolution. Indeed there is nothing he does as a Christian, or can do, but is an act of valour. A cowardly spirit is beneath the lowest duty of a Christian, 'be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest'-- what? stand in battle against those warlike nations? No, but that thou mayest 'observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant comanded thee, (Jos. 1:7) It requires more prowess and greatness of spirit to obey God faithfully, than to command an army of men; to be a Christian than a captain." - William Gurnall (1616-1679)

"It will always be a struggle in some ways. It's important to remember that you don't have to do anything in His favor, He already loves you, So the things that you do, Do because you want to, not because You have to for any reason. That is something I still struggle with, but knowing that helps free me. Don't let your failures keep you down, you are not disappointing God, He already knows, you are disappointing yourself. Which is understandable. However, don't let that discourage you, Don't dwell and keep walking forward. Don't dwell and keep walking forward."
