What are your opinions about the music of Frost Like Ashes?
The reviews on Metallum are pretty low. I think some of you mentioned you wouldn't put them on the top CBM list.
I like Tophet a lot. One major reason might be because it was the first black metal album I owned. However, I do enjoy the record musically. I enjoy the EPs as well.
Thoughts on their music?

The only thing from them that I've really listened to is Tophet, and I'm not a fan. Not really my style of black metal. Then again, it's been quite some time since I last listened to it, so maybe I should give it another chance.

I don't know many songs by them, but I like the songs I do know. The production is a little rough, but that's okay.

I like the specific style of black metal they do. Love the production. Dani Filth vocals are pretty cool too. Tophet has decent musical variety. The bad part - stereotypical cringeworthy "unblack" synths. Sounds like they "struggle" a few times in their riffs. (tempo wanes like they can't hold their speed)
Overall, I'd call them "pretty good", but its nothing that sets my skull on fire... I would just ignore the butthurt from the Metal Archives. LOL

Used to talk with one of the guys on a different mesageboard back in the day. Cool enough dude, but I never vibed with the music. NOT a knock, by any means, I just never got in to what they did.

Thanks for your thoughts, all. Yeah, I think an important factor is their fairly uncommon style of black metal.

Why do you think they have so many reviews for a Christian black metal band on MA? I mean, it's 6 reviews for their album, but that's more than any Slechtvalk or Crimson Moonlight album, the same as Antestor's TROTBD, and one less than Horde's. Like, how did they get their name out there?
Edit: to clarify the impetus of my question ... the other bands I used to compare either came on the scene in a unique way (i.e., Horde) or have really high album ratings (e.g., Antestor). But FLA has not good ratings. So I'm just curious how so many people knew about them.

I think Frost Like Ashes are pretty friggin' awesome. However, some of their vocals could be improved (although I like their vocals quite a lot), and they really need a heck of a lot more content. One album, a single, some demo stuff, and a couple ep's, when a band/artist has been around for over a decade, is simply just not enough content IMO, no matter how good the music is.

I think we´ll have to wait a loooooooong time until something new pops up. As far as I know the guys live pretty far from each other and don´t even plan on releasing something new.

Well, I'm a little different than most of you. To most people who mildly collect or listen to Unblack, they won't make a big impression most of the time, yet if you do hardcore collect, you find that many bands can sound the close to the same. While that isn't a bad thing all the time, when their is a band with a unique sound thast you won't find anywhere else, it rocks. All of the sudden your listening to a new sub genre of Unblack or death that no one else is like. For this, frost like ashes is an awesome band. Although if you want high pitch screams for Unblack you will have better fun with Neizbezhnost (link following). Yet it's the whole attitude of Frost like ashes that play the demand to want more. Pics with statements; "Even Satan Has Nightmares", or "I've seen the future, and you die". They are known for the message of BloodBath in Jesus Blood, A cruel Verse, And their "adorers of blood" original track along with earlier stuff as one of the first of the rising of unblack artists. They were technically part of the originals, and when everyone asked for high pitched vocals, Frost like ashes was where they were pointed back in the day. The blatant message of rebellion and deep graphics made them very hard for most Christian Parents to say; okay, I can approve. Yet They have tracks we collectors have known and loved, at least one from at least their earlier stuff. So thus, Frost like ashes is still an awesome band nd their unique sound is great when bands can sound like other bands. But I listen to all bands of Unblack and enjoyed all their styles except for one band I never got into. Even the rawest underground stuff is pleasing to me, and no other genre of music aside from Unblack could do that with me, not even Christian Death Metal. Here is the link to Neizbezhnost

Pastor Dad: Are you sure this band is Christian son? Son: Yes Dad, Really!
