Any advice on how to learn to play black metal style guitar? Like instructional videos online to watch. I didn't really discover black metal until later in life. When I started playing guitar drop tuned stuff like System of a Down was popular and that style of playing isn't very black metal

I think the major pieces are tremolo picking and using harmonic minor scales to write riffs.
As for instructional videos, I don't have any...but they would be useful to me too, as a rookie guitarist.

Just work on your trem picking (both single notes AND 2-3 string chords), and your palm muting. As with anything else music related, practice is your friend

I can only recommend you to look for and subscribe to Simon Smith on youtube. He is very funny and has uploaded some extremely helpful videos. This is a great video to start with :-)
