Any investors here? I just recently started investing, trying to learn the ropes. I have to say it's pretty addictive, watching stocks and reading business articles and analyzing charts. The mobile app industry has made it as easy as can be.
A friend of mine uses the Acorn app that links with his debit card and automatically rounds up his purchases to the nearest dollar and invests the difference for him. It's pretty neat. I have a specialized savings account at my credit union that does the same thing (rounds up purchases but just puts the remainder into a savings instead of investing it). I'm thinking about deactivating my special savings account and doing Acorn instead because it does seem to grow your money from what my friend tells me. You can tell it that you want it to be conservative or aggressive based on your preferences and how much risk you want involved. I think there is a small fee to use it though, I'd have to look into it
The app I have been using, however, is completely free. No charge per transaction either. It's called Robinhood. It doesn't hold your hand or give recommendations. It is basically just a very simple and easy to use stock trading interface. You can view a basic stock price chart and see some recent articles but all of the decisions are completely up to you. So I supplement it with other apps for doing research. I really like Stock Twits app. It's basically a Twitter for the stock market and you can "Watch" whichever stocks you want to and easily switch between feeds to see what all the Stock Twits users are saying about the stock (predictions, opinions, new info, etc.). You can actually integrate Stock Twits with Robinhood as well. I also have the Yahoo Finance app and the Business Insider app for watching business news.
I have made money on my first sale of stock already, but overall I'm currently in the hole lol. That's all right though, I'm learning, and riding out the dips is part of it. My largest investment has been with Ford Motors. First quarter has been rough though, with some recalls a few weeks ago and Tesla gaining more of the market share. I expect Ford to bounce back though and I like that they are developing new technologies.
What do you guys think? Does this stuff interest you at all, or am I a dork? Lol.
