Since theyre making a comeback this summer, I thought it would be a fitting time to post something about one of my favourite finnish metal bands.
Whether or not you consider them metal or metal-influenced rock is a matter of preference, of course, but they are heavy in many ways. Not only do they often sport three guitarists on stage, they also often have quite deep lyrical content. The lyrics deal with finnish soul and often contain christian referances. They are not a "christian band", but the leader of the band, Timo Rautiainen, has referred Jesus as a messiah on at least one interview. Not very "hip" thing to to in finnish metal circles, especially back in early 2000's. Timo has also made many social remarks in his interviews. He is a youth worker and has spoken often in defence of the youth and the "lower casts" of the society, but he has stayed clear of the party politics (Not that political parties are necessarily a bad thing, but you know how it goes).
They have also done some interesting cover songs. They did "The last day of heaven" by Barathrum and changed the perspective by adding an extra verse where the legions of Heaven destroy the evil forces. Seemed pretty provocative at the time
One cool cover was also "Samarithan" by Candlemass. And that thing is, if not word by word, still very much from The Bible. Awesome version.
I think the older songs are better than this one, but here is the new single anyway:
The Barathrum cover (Didnt find the studio version) :
Candlemass cover (No studio version for this on Youtube either) :
And yeah, about the band name; its really not among the best, thats for sure The plain "Niskalaukaus" (Headshot) would be better, but anyway.
