The talk about Agonal in the shoutbox got me thinking about my favorite genre... So what are some of your favorites in the doom/death/dark metal area? Mine are:
Agonal Ashen Mortality Cloth Dalit Ekklesiast Paramaecium Sawol Seventh Angel (newer stuff) Virgin Black (more gothic, but their latest is doom/death - regardless, one of my favorite bands)

Yeah those guys are great. Oh! I forgot Implacable! I really wish they made more music... but all their demo material is on their website free to download. www.implacable.no/search/label/music

Regarding doom, I have yet to hear anything better than Paramæcium - Within the Ancient Forest

Larry, do you have links to where one could download those two bands' music? I'd love to check 'em out! Drawnsword, do you know that you can download Implacable's material from their website? And yes, Within The Ancient Forest is an absolute masterpiece. That one gets regular rotation from me.

I think Valheron was released by Extreme Records, maybe it was a limited CDr distro item or an early ER release? I did actually download some Through The Valley tracks they had available from there myspace years ago, it was in my days of dial up so they are full of glitches and so i never listened to em much anyway.

I switched Seventh Angel Lament with Paramæcium - Within the Ancient Forest as lament is not really death doom and i agree Within is a masterpiece album. I just like Exhumed much more in many ways. The live video of Paramaecium is a classic also.

Glad I can be of help. Their Promo 2007 material is my favorite of theirs but the other two demos are good too. Yeah man, I would LOVE for a full-length! They seem to have gone MIA though. Do you like Of Withering Ashes? It's got the same lady singer and I think also the guitarist from Implacable but no death metal vocals, just clean singing. Reminds me a bit of early The Third And The Mortal (one of my favorite bands). OWA also has their demo material available to download for free: www.ofwitheringashes.com/

This is the official soundclick page for Through the Valley www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=55591&content=musicI can't find the place where I got the Valheron album from but I do know that it was from the band themselves so I assume that it has since been taken down. All of Implacable's stuff is on their website www.implacable.no/ The Valheron was self released on cdr and is VERY RARE. But like I said I remember getting that from the band but I can't remember where and I can't find it now.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts. I really enjoy this type of music.
Turns out Of Withering Ashes has my favorite song of theirs on youtube! Here it is. (FYI they are not doom/death.)

It reminds me a bit of the 3rd and the mortal. OWA's dark earthy style, paints a nice picture.

The new Dalit is available to pre-order from Metal Helm. This is one of my most anticipated releases of the year! I think it's going to be excellent.

Agonal is looking to release a new album soon. A Suffering Complete has been one of my most-listened-to albums in recent years. I'm stoked! Larry, any chance of releasing it on SGR since you did the last one? (A double-CD with all the digital singles they made would be awesome... just sayin' )

No the band left the label. I would guess this will be a self release download like their first two.

Oh nice! What song of theirs is on it? I have to check as I do not have it around me right now, but I guess it was some of those that were also offered as a free downloads. Would be nice to get some more copies of Turn or Burn, it was not the most visually gratifying zine but it had good content.
