Also turns out that former lead guitarist/backing vocalist Elisha Mullins (The Burial, Fleshkiller) co-wrote a couple tracks on the album. Don't think it's a "formal" announcement, but Adam made a reply on something he'd posted Fleshkiller related.

Album is available on Spotify. I've only listened through once and it sounds pretty good! I wasn't paying attention to pacing though, sorry guys

That song, "artifice intelligence", was a contribution from one of their newer members. Musically, to me it has the same vibe that some of Nevermore's less complex, mid paced stuff like Psalm of Lydia has, but it's still identifiable as "A Hill to Die Upon".

00:49 Alright, we're building up to a fast section! ........... Oh, it's a single guitar line. Okay. That works too. 01:54 Please do something else 02:19 Alright, now we're on the right track! Keep it up dudes! 02:33 ... It's not going anywhere from here, is it? Yeah. Of course I hope this album goes well for them, and I'm sure there are a lot of people who are going to dig this, but I'm just ... not really getting hyped, sorry.

That track somewhat reminds me of Septic Flesh's Revolution DNA, but without the keyboards and synths that helped to construct the great atmosphere of that album. I hope more of the material on this album is akin to the first single than it is to this track.

Okay, after nearly 3 listens...........
favorite tracks so far are Sorcery and Sudden Vengeance and The Garden.
I find so far that this album is great as background music, which is a bit different from their previous work. The first three albums beg your undivided attention, but this one I find my focus relaxing naturally. This is not a bad thing, but different. I'm eager to hear what you guys think.

Only one full listen to this album in my car. I definitely like the album overall, but it does seem like they're toning down the energy on the songs this time around. I think I remember Great Is Artemis and St. Cocaine as being my favorite songs, but I'll have to listen to it again.

Yeah I find myself wanting to listen to it again also. After three listens, I still want to listen to it. That's a very good sign. I think there are layers here and this one will stand the test of time.

I've listened to it at least three times. The first time was kind of meh for me, but I'm pretty sure it's a grower. I usually end up liking albums that grow on me better than ones I like right away.
It does seem to have less attack than the previous albums. Instead of being a blizzard with wind and freezing snow pelting your face, it's more of a calm, spacious, and freezing landscape after the blizzard. The production is great. There are many subtle and wonderful details. The whole thing has a more open feel.
Standout track at present: "Great is Artemis of the Ephesians." (I know it's a standout when my wife is talking to me about her Ephesians Bible study and the riffs and chorus start going through my head.)

Yeah I listened to it some more today. It's already growing on me and I see myself listening to it just as often as their previous work. I kind of wish they would not have included gd in the lyrics but I understand the lyrics are being written from another person's perspective. Still, it kind of bugs me a little.
I don't think there's a bad track on the album though. It just doesn't grab you as quickly as say, Omens or their other albums.

I'm going to be absolutely honest: I have YET to listen to a full, complete track, even those i've posted about. I've been DESPERATELY seeking that old school "discovery" vibe from the late 80's/early 90's, when you didn't always know what you had on your hands when you bought something........I have great faith in my friends....but it'd be stupidly awesome if Target would get me my CD.....

when you didn't always know what you had on your hands when you bought something Don't worry, the polka stuff in track 5 blends well with the dubstep that shows up later. It seems like an unlikely combination, but you know those old chaps at AHTDU, they make it work! By the way, the hidden Dora the Explorer theme song cover at the end of the album is pretty brutal, too!

Ok, so I went to the Davenport, Iowa release gig for this. The journey there was a saga in and of itself, left myself 5-1/2 hours for a 4 hour drive, and thanks to 4 bridges under construction, rush hour southern Chicago suburbs traffic, and not one but TWO semi truck accidents, one of which apparently involved fire.......I ended up 2 hours late to the gig, missed the first 2 bands, and part of the third.
On top of that, UPS had my CD IN MY TOWN on the 29th of September, and yet somehow, 6 days later it was in Van Nuys, CA. Strange things happen when a depot employee scans a package into a "transfer" basket rather than "out for delivery", I guess....
So, much like I was afraid of, my first taste of most of the new songs in full was in the live context.....they were GREAT, and the "new members" are worthy additions. Highlight of the night, though, was them being joined onstage by their longtime merch guy/roadie Seth on guitar for "Great is Artemis of the Ephesians".
Got to spend several hours after the show hanging out with them, eating a meal at Denny's at 3AM (graciously paid for by Adam), and was given a CD for my long drive back to Indiana, during which I listened to it 8 times straight.
It has not left my CD player in the ensuing three weeks. I've heard it closing on 100 times, and it is my favorite thing they have ever released.
This CD is about ONE thing: MOOD. The music on it is enshrouded in a roiling fog of melancholy, thru which you catch glimpses of despair and seething anger. It is ALMOST perfection for me. My only complaint is that it's shorter than I want......
Standout tracks for me are "Jubal and Syrinx", "Great is Artemis of the Ephesians", "Mosin Nagant", and "St. Cocaine".

Strange things happen when a depot employee scans a package working in a warehouse, I could tell you stories haha..just be happy when it arrives safe and more or less on time This CD is about ONE thing: MOOD I´m glad that you say that, because I still haven´t really listened to it. Whenever I start a song it somehow goes by without me noticing anything probably because I´m not in the mood for it. Hope that changes soon because I love everything they´ve done.

Oh, if nobody bothered with the "math" about the drive there, a 4 and a quarter hour, ~250 mile drive too me JUST shy of 8 HOURS.
I'd do it again in a heartbeat, no questions asked. Never let it be said that I don't love my friends.......

I agree with you about the mood and that it's a bit short. You sum things up very nicely! I think "Great is Artemis . . ." is still my favorite.
