I know most of you guys are Christians, but there's gotta be some of you who enjoy this beautiful nectar. Discuss. Post recent discoveries, talk about favorites. Etc.
I'm primarily a stout drinker. Cheap go to is Guinness or Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout. Recently had a coffee cocoanut porter from a local brewery out here that was to die for.

I'm sure you remember my stance on beer/alcohol. It has nothing to do with my faith at all... its just I'm 8+ years recovered from alcoholism and have beyond drank the fun out of it for life.
The only beer I think I ever drank was King Cobra 40oz bottles... but I'd only consider drinking that if I'd already slammed 750ml of rotgut... some Skol or Distiller's Pride, or I would usually buy a big bottle of cheap rum, vodka, whiskey and gin and mix all of them in a "chugging bottle". Maybe chase that with a pint of Listerine or hand sanitizer before I go to beer.
Unfortunately, I'm very serious. Yes, I almost died.
Kerrick (one of the mods here) likes beer. I think Kai (from No Sleep) posted something on beer as well.

Ah, I actually did not know that. And I'm sorry King Cobra was the only thing you ever drank.

Stout is definitely my favorite. Beer can be kinda difficult to get where I am though, it's generally restricted to the liquor stores and ends up costing a lot more because of that.

Beer in general is starting to cost more. Some local places charge like $25 for a 22oz bottle. Fucking insane.

I don't drink beer anymore. I used to but I never really liked the taste of it too well. Now I like Margarita's and Whiskey and Rum and even Tequilla but I NEVER have more than one drink with my meal and I only do that about once every month or two.

Beer in general is starting to cost more. Some local places charge like $25 for a 22oz bottle. Fucking insane. No more insane than how expensive gourmet water is. ...WATER... One 750ml bottle of this? $23 One 750ml bottle of this? $219 ...and that's not the most expensive. One 750ml bottle of "Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani" water is $60,000. That's not a typo! I don't drink beer anymore. I used to but I never really liked the taste of it too well. Now I like Margarita's and Whiskey and Rum and even Tequilla but I NEVER have more than one drink with my meal and I only do that about once every month or two. I've always filed alcohol, caffeine and protein drink in the "effect" category, not the "taste" category. If I tried to have a shot with a meal, I'd end up sending the food back, chugging straight from the bottle until the night ended in jail or the hospital.

For years I tried to be "cool" by drinking beers that were not the status quo... back a few years ago I reluctantly conceded that Bud Light is indeed America's best (affordable) beer. It is so smooth, great taste. I don't drink beer very often, though. I usually drink vodka + fruit juices (different ones depending on mood). I've cut back on that lately too though. I used to be pretty deep into alcoholism as well... to the point where I tried to quit cold turkey once and had DT's (anyone who knows what I'm talking about, I sympathize with you... audible hallucinations, visual ones as well when I closed my eyes... never experienced anything like it). Now I just try to drink casually.

Once with Delerium Tremins? You're fortunate. DT's happened to me every time I stopped drinking, along with insane tremors, sweating and gastrointestinal evacuations from the front and back, all which happened on and off 2005 until mid 2007. ...but that's what I get for drinking a 5th to a liter of hard liquor a day and then just stopping.
The highest blood alcohol level I remember getting from a bloodtest at a hospital was .467. I keyed that correctly - almost half my blood was alcohol and I drank no different than how I normally drank, so it was probably close to that high regularly.
While doctors were surprised I was even conscious, they were not surprised that I more or less acted like a reptile and had to be restrained. I lost count of how many times I woke up in jail or the hospital, restrained, and had no idea how I got there.
A judge sentenced me to a state mental hospital for 90 days because of some of my behavior while DTing. (I carved latin into my arm - still have the scars) Worse place to DT was in jail. Not only did I frighten the guards and other inmates, they ended up putting me in segregation and just giving me a ton of benzodiazapines for the entirety of my stay so I wouldn't say or do anything. ...then I went in withdrawal from those when I got out and of course drank to stop those.
Sorry, I won't derail the thread with my drunkcapades. I'll just close by saying no one, anywhere, ever thought it was cool if I had even 1 drop of alcohol, regardless of what type that alcohol was. Even some friends of mine shoving a needle into their arm were begging me to stop...

Wow Thomas, I'm so glad you're ok now! 0.467 is extremely dangerous... I've never heard of DT before.
For me, I love me my beer indeed. [burp] I typically go for Belgians [my favorites are quadrupels], porters, stouts, and brown ales. I'm not a big IPA fan but I do enjoy a good one now and then.

The only belgian I ever really dug was Gulden Draak, unfortunately, something about belgians give me the worsssst damn headaches ever. So I try and steer pretty clear from them. And I agree on the IPAs, I hated them for the longest time, but I've managed to find a few that I enjoy partaking in from time to time.

Yeah I really don't get this whole IPA fad... I mean, IPAs are nice and all, but it's getting absolutely ridiculous when you go to a bar and half the beers on tap are IPAs. And the other half are Bud, Coors, and other piss beers (sorry Deep Friar! . Also, the summer time is the WORST for beers because that's all you see, along with these bland pilsners and kolsches. I'm looking forward to autumn though because that's when we get the good stuff. [disco] I know most trve beer connoisseurs will shame me for this, but there's something mighty fine about a good pumpkin ale. Has anyone had the Smashed Pumpkin from Shipyard Brewing Co.? It's pretty fantastic.

Those bitches can shame away! I'm right there with you, man! It's been a while since I had the regular Smashed Pumpkin (they got in at the liquor store last week though) had the barrel aged version of it last year. I am forever loyal to the great Pumking and his faithful servant Warlock, though! Both of which have unfortunately gone downhill in quality

Both Pumking and Warlock are still fantastic, but, back in 2013 (Warlocks birth year) they had to change their pumpkin source to meet the demand, and that lowered the quality of pumking significantly. It used to have this buttery graham cracker and vanilla flavor that laced beautifully with the pumpkins. Now it tastes like a moderately watered down version of that. Warlock was great in it's birth year, but this year, they tried to make it higher ABV and it made it a bit less appealing, not because of the higher content, but because whatever they did dropped some of the flavors off.
As for Sierra Nevada, I havn't had much of theirs, outside of Narwhal, but I had a few IPAs in a variety pack my friend bought, all of which I thought had a pretty solid taste.

Gotcha. I'll have to try those! I'll keep an eye out for them.
The Narwhal is great; one of the better imperial stouts I've had.

As a German, I'm of course a bit biased and of course, I think the German beer is the best I really like the lager beer from our small, local breweries, if I can't get that, I also like Beck's or Wulle lager beer. I also enjoy wheat beer, though I don't have a favourite brewery for this kind of beer yet. ^^

Not sure what an IPA is I think I may just stick with my Rum and Tequilla.

Not sure what "buttery graham cracker and vanilla flavor" has to do with alcohol, but then again you're talking to a guy who's gotten drunk from a can of Pam cooking spray before.

Ihversaw: IPA = India Pale Ale. Super bitter and hoppy. Imagine basically drinking a bag of potpurri.
Thomas: That's POSSIBLE?! haha. and those three flavors describe what the perfect tasting high abv beer was...before they butchered it.

The thing is, I really don't get too excited over most typical German beer styles. Lagers, kolsches, hefeweizens... Eh, they just don't do it for me. I like the heavier, gnarlier stuff! But maybe that's because I've never had proper German beer. [Even the stuff imported here has a bunch of different, more restrictive standards that alter the flavor.]

^ agreed. Never been keen on any german style beers, really. Every once and a while, maybe a marzen, but all of it's too crispy and not thick enough.

Well, I got some Sierra Nevada seasonal Oktoberfest at Safeway yesterday and had one when I got home. It's not bad, though I had a Narwhal chaser which was much better.

My roommate scored bottles of three of the six varieties of Bourbon County yesterday (the regular, the regal rye, and the coffee). They are limited releases and only put out every year on black friday. I had previously tried the regular and coffee ones, and we did a side by side comparison of 2014/2015 regular one. All of them had distinctive flavor profiles and were hands down delicious. anyone else grab a bottle?

Not alcoholic, but there's a bottling company a few hours from where I live that does the most awesome root beer I've ever had. Even better is their cream soda.
It's called Fitz's. Their slogan is "If it wasn't better, we wouldn't bother."
So awesome. It's got like 5 natural ingredients you can pronounce. Cane sugar is what makes it so awesome. Like liquid candy bros.

I've seen their stuff around. I stopped drinking soda years ago though. The sugar intake was too much.

One bottle Fitz's has like 20 grams less sugar than a 12oz Pepsi can and is only 140 calories.
No way I can drink soda with a meal, especially how sweet this soda is. It's a dessert! ...and MUCH less sugar than a froofy coffee at Starbucks or a chocolate shake through the drive through.
