I got a fair bit of beer for Christmas. My sister is going on a trip up through Oregon and said she's going to get me a bunch more beer for my birthday (which is in about a week). I'll try to make a list of what I got and post it here!

I drank the Heretic Torment last night which was pretty good. Not mind-blowingly amazing, but very enjoyable. From their website: This 10% Belgian-style dark ale is the dark counterpart to Worry. Torment is a rich beer with lots of caramel, malt, dark fruit, and Belgian candi sugar notes. The luscious fruity character is full of caramel apples, candied pears, and chocolate covered oranges. abv: 10% ibu: 20 srm: 17

Does anyone use the app Untappd? My username is Kerrick65 if you want to add me. I rarely use it but it's fun nonetheless!
EDIT: triple-post in the beer thread... does that make me an alcoholic??? [puke]

Naw man, you're normal to enjoy beer. I wish I could without it sucking the life out of me. ...but I've definitely already had a lifetime supply. [puke] This 10% Belgian-style dark ale is the dark counterpart to Worry. Torment is a rich beer with lots of caramel, malt, dark fruit, and Belgian candi sugar notes. I never had Worry or Torment before, but back in my drinking days, I used to have the occasional swig of Dismemberment and Meat Hook Vasectomy. LOL

Haha thanks Thomas! I made some chili last night and per recommendation of someone (can't remember who), I put some beer into the mix. I used Drakonic Imperial Stout. When I get home tonight it will have been cooking in my crockpot for the entire day and should be pretty epic. I also added some pretty hot peppers and such so I'm hopeful the flavor of the beer won't clash with them but we'll see. For the meat I used ground bison instead of beef which should give it a unique flavor too.

Okay guys, I'll do some IPA. Recommend a few I can find at a grocery store.

I'm not the biggest IPA fan, but every once in a while I enjoy them. One of the most popular (though admittedly overpriced) is the Sculpin by Ballast Point. It is very good.

I've been having a lot of fun with that Untappd app! Y'all should download it and add me! It's pretty cool: you can rate beers, check in to locations where you drank them, leave notes, see what your friends are drinking, etc. It's free too. I got Veronika on there too hahaha! I'm pretty stoked: while the majority of beer readily available here in Barcelona isn't that great, I've found some real gems! Also, back in Santa Cruz there's this place that used to have Grimbergen Double on tap and it was my go-to beer there. They haven't carried it for a long time and I've missed it but you can find that stuff in most grocery stores here! Awesome! I'm drinking some now. AND... we found a store that has cases of Westvleteren! They had the blonde, 8, and 12 available! The 12's were like 17 EUR each for a 12oz bottle but I may just have to get one or two...

Shit! i havn't been around a computer much since march, so I missed all of this.
Currently drinking sam adams cream stout, which, was the first beer my underage ass fell in love with years ago. haha. Notable recent acquisitions include Highwater Campfire Stout, Pirate Bomb from Prairie (holy fuck, if you see this, buy it, no matter what the price), and I've got two bottles of Wide Awake! It's morning! from Funky Buddha that my lady and I are planning on busting into once we get into our new place Monday night! It's a maple bacon coffee porter that's barrel aged! so I'm stoked as all fuck on that.
And yeah, I hardly log into untapped either, but my username should be archdukeofmetal

Right on! Wow I have never heard of Pirate Bomb but I checked it out on Rate Beer and it's got pretty dang stellar reviews... I will definitely pick up a bottle if I see it!
I like that Campfire Stout; I've had it a few times before. That porter sounds pretty wild. I'm curious what you think of it!

Not the beer connoisseur you guys are, but I had one of these last week......not bad at all. My go to "cheap" beer is Michelob Amber Bock.....

The wide awake maple bacon was the die for. Just picked up a bottle of Birthday Bomb, which is prairie bomb with caramel, a bottle of liquid double fudge from evil twin, some iced coffee porter, and horny goat chocolate peanut butter, which I've had before and it's delicious. Easily the best chocolate peanut butter I've ever had, other than maybe having liquid bliss back when it was a side project beer.

Dang, sorry for the late reply! What kinds of beer do you like graavvee? Ales, stouts, porters, belgians, IPAs...? I'm generally not a huge IPA fan but every once in a while I will really enjoy a good one. But my sister's boyfriend was passing through Oregon and got me a baby growler of Boneyard's Notorious IPA3 and wow was it GOOD.

Hey I just found this thread!!!
Even though I'm 20 and still underage in America, I have had plenty of beer and other alcohol when I lived in China (age limit is 18 there). But most of my experience has been with 4% beers or less (which is basically just flavored water) and then 白酒 which is like the Chinese Saki and tastes and smells like rubbing alcohol.
I've decided that I really enjoy my dark beers. Probably 7-9% is my sweet zone. Guinness has been the best beer I've ever had but once I'm 21 I'm gonna try to expand my pallette with stouts. I will most definitely be a beer connoisseur but only have like one or two six packs a month. Once or twice a week. Beer makes me sleepy and agitated if I drink too much.

and then 白酒 which is like the Chinese Saki and tastes and smells like rubbing alcohol. Yeah, drinking rubbing alcohol sucks. That was one of my hells in active alcoholism. Worst bowel movements ever on drinking that stuff. ...no wonder I had rectal cancer, eh? :B

So my WIFE and I were walking on the beach on Monday and she asked me, "if different types of beers were heavy metal genres, what would they be?" We discussed this for some time, and came up with these, among others. What do you guys think? -Hardcore/metalcore - IPA (aggressive, angsty, a punch in the face) -Classic/heavy metal - ales, lagers (easy drinking) -Black metal - imperial stouts (dark, intense) -Death metal - porter (thick, dense, heavy) -Funeral doom - barrel-aged porter (dark, extremely heavy, can't chug but have to sip on slowly) -Power metal - wheat beer with orange flavor (like Blue Moon), etc. (flowery, girly) -Thrash metal - mixing all the leftover half-empty cups after a party (this was Veronika's idea hahahaha) Also, we think we should start a brewery in which there are little race horses Eddies, pentagrams, goats, etc. for each type of beer. If a bunch of ales and lagers are being drank, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and the like will automatically be playing on the speakers. But if a group of stout-drinking blokes walk in, Orationem, Crimson Moonlight, Antestor, etc. will start playing automatically. Pretty great idea, huh? Hahahaha we had fun coming up with all this anyways. Maybe you will too.

Stouts and porters are some of my favorite types. Guinness is a great introduction beer and often a favorite for folks just getting into beer. There's a wonderful book called "The Search For God And Guinness" which outlines the history of the brewery and how God was sought throughout the entirety of its existence. It's a fun read. A popular imperial stout that's pretty readily available (at least in CA) is Old Rasputin. Imagine Guinness but much gnarlier. You really gotta sip it because it's very rich and heavy. It's quite tasty though and a great stepping stone for more intense beers. And how did I forget to post this?!? I have a feeling Archduke may appreciate this... While in Barcelona I grabbed a six-pack (plus really cool glasses) of what many consider to be the best beer in the world. (This is their quad, I believe it's from 2012 but I'd have to check again.) Overpriced? Sure. Gimmicky? Maybe. But it's still pretty dang good and it was fun to bring back bottles for a couple of my beer-snob friends and Veronika and I.

I gotta admit, that Christmas ale by Anchor is really quite good! We got a giant bottle of it and my dad, wife, and I shared it on Christmas. We all really enjoyed it. www.ratebeer.com/beer/anchor-brewing-merry-christmas-2016-happy-new-year/466298/Otherwise, I like the Fireside Chat by 21st Amendment Brewery quite a bit and the Jubelale by Deschutes is pretty decent. Those are the ones that come to my mind first anyways. For Christmas I was given a few beers including a habanero Sculpin IPA. Should be interesting! The Sculpin is one of the most popular IPAs right now and is quite good. I'm curious how the habanero one will be...

I've not been beer-ing lately. Smirnoff Peppermint Twist and Blue Chair Bay spiced coconut rum. Both waaaaay better than und expect for the price.
Tonight's experiment is Peppermint Mocha Kahlua, also very good for the price. Would be absolute magic as a holiday cocktail in a mug of hot chocolate or good coffee......

Good choices, unfortunately the Christmas ale is out of stock in my area. 21st does have a tasty looking toaster pastry ale they too have the fireside chat, should be interesting. I heard the habanero is quite spicy.

Here's what I've picked up. Some I've tasted already. I've wanted to get my hands on some of these for a while. I am big on coffee stouts, can't wait to try Tweak near 18% content in the 12oz. Bourbon heavy.
