My symptoms are mild at this point, with fatigue still being the worse and nausea at a close second. As I get closer to surgery, I get a little more and more anxious.
Trying to stay distracted...

I've got to do my prep today and then surgery is tomorrow morning. I'm nervous about it, but I think being nervous before surgery is normal.

Will continue praying, Thomas! And yeah, being nervous is normal. Even if it were something small like the very small/quick procedure I had on my toe a few months ago, using the word "surgery" adds a feeling of severity to it. Try to acknowledge it as such. In Christ, no situation is ever as bad as it seems in our brains.

I think more than anything, I'm tired of being anxious about whatever recovery hurdles I have. I'm ready to just start jumping them.

Actually my wife has told me that she's going to make me get up and walk that night after surgery. There's a very good reason for that though. (Wakes the bowels back up again so they can start healing)

I'm alive. Surgery was a success. They needed 1mm of cancer free tissue to hook me back up, I had 2cm. Just came back from a walk. Pain is about 8 out of 10.

Pain is 9.5 out of 10. Fffffuuuuuuuu Morphine and dry hospital room make for itchy skin and my wife is an angel to scratch them...

Pain management is tricky. I can definitely see why I'll be in the hospital for 5 days. Got up and walked a second time. Still have oxygen because it's hard to breathe.

Roger that. Are you on O2 continuously or just with activity? (I actually work with O2 daily, I work at a home medical equipment company).

Continuously. The opiates play a part with needing oxygen too.

Looks like I might get to take a shower, eat food (haven't eaten since Monday) and transition to pain pills rather than injections. Slowly moving along. If things go super awesome I'll go home tomorrow. If not, Monday. Still have my catheter and drain. Still combating pain...

I fucking hate this. I can't sleep because I'm the one that has to press my dope button, so if I miss a dose in a 10 minute increment, I'm in excruciating pain. The gas they used to inflate me so they could see during the operation hurts way worse than the incisions.
So anyway, I was breathing shallow earlier today - brought on by anxiety for the most part - and thought that if I said something about it, they would give me more oxygen or something. NOPE. Instead, like 10 people (including my wife) freak out thinking that I've got a blood clot in my lungs, take out IV's, put in new ones (a painful ultrasound guided one), xrays, blood tests, CAT scan and get moved to a semi-critical room where I'm hooked up to like 10 machines beeping constantly.

That sounds extremely unpleasant.
Also I'm quite surprised by their response to your breathing. I'm no medical expert, but it seems a little over-the-top to me. My nose is a little stuffed right now - I wonder how they'd respond to that?

My oxygen was less than 90% and heart rate was 140 BPM. I guess that makes the tests they did yesterday make a bit more sense. Still struggling to manage pain. Thank you again for your prayers...

Second horrible patient experience today.
They took away my dilaudid and didn't pay close enough attention when the morphine wasn't cutting it. I spent several hours bawling like a little baby (because the pain was so intense) in front of my wife and mom who tried everything to help.
My wife my mom let my nurses have it because they let me be in pain, and I let them have it once the Norcos took the pain down enough to where I could actually speak.

They took my catheter out and now I can't pee. The nurses won't re catheter me because even after 6 hours they can't see my bladder in a scan from the swelling. I've got a few hours before kidney failure or a burst bladder so... I guess I'm screwed.

You're not screwed.
"For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you."
(Isaiah 41:13 NIV)
Praying for you still.
