Thomas Eversole I could never get into that game, I think because I didn't feel like it translated well to a cell phone game. Also, I just don't enjoy playing games on a touchscreen. That being said, I have started to enjoy a little Black Desert Mobile. I might post some screenshots later.

I think my brother is about the same way, likes console better than mobile. I feel just the opposite anymore. PC or console gaming, I don't know why, just feels like I'm "tethered" to "furniture". (the game can only be played at the "station" that's set up for it) Meanwhile mobile, I can game just the same in my office or living room as I can at the park or my wife's grandparent's house. Without having to lug around equipment that needs to be connected. I do think Elder Scrolls Blades translated well to mobile. (very well actually) but the tap-to-move default controls are downright unusable/unplayable. Luckily, the controls are very customizable, and a left joystick to move/strafe and swipe to look. It's actually easier to play with 2 fingers rather than 6 buttons and 2 joysticks. XD

I may have to give Blades another try.
Right now I've taken a break from Black Desert because I've been able to make Majora's Mask work on my phone! Surprising how well that game holds up--it's been over ten years since I first played it.

Does anyone play any online games? Does anyone want to play any online games? Just started playing the new COD Warzone, it's pretty fun. Also always play Dark Souls III a lot

If you haven't played Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, you're missing out.
As I get older and don't have a lot of time to play games, I gravitate to games that are instantly challenging. I don't want to waste time on 3 hours of on-ramps and tutorials. I want something that is difficult immediately. Anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah, action RPG/hack 'n' slash is my favorite genre and it seems most games nowadays are style over substance, especially on mobile. I'm hoping Diablo Immortal is good but I'm not holding my breath. I played Wolcen for a little bit (on PC) but it had too many bugs. That's what happens when you are an indie studio and you run out of money: you have to push your product out the door before it's ready. I'm sure they have fixed many of the bugs by now but not before many people utilized exploits and that makes it no fun.

style over substance, especially on mobile. Insane graphics to draw you in, but once you download the game it's fifteen bajillion customizable dealybobs (with the option to pay cash money for red crystals, of course) and 5 hours of tutorial with no option to skip. I'm quickly becoming the old man yelling at the clouds when it comes to gaming. Borderlands 2 is pretty fun, though. Doesn't reinvent the wheel, but keeps it rolling.

I was scrolling through this thread to find a game mentioned and found out that both Thomas Eversole and I mentioned Buriedbornes (and had completely different experiences with it), but never talked to each other about it. I've recently replaced my social media use/news reading/doomscrolling with phone games and I feel a lot better. At least I know that I'm wasting time, as opposed to pretending that I'm doing something "useful" while surfing Reddit or frantically checking email. So far, my favorites are: * Grim Quest. If you're familiar with dungeon crawlers like Brogue, this is pretty similar, but with no permadeath. It's pretty hard, though. It's a good pick-up-and-play game, helpful for when I need to switch gears from homework for a few minutes, but don't need to get distracted for hours. * Genshin Impact. This is the game that I play if I want to get distracted for hours. It's the closest I've come to Skyrim on the Android. Open world, great graphics, good combat. There are some microtransactions, but they're not necessary to enjoy the game. It also hits a good balance between being too easy and too difficult--most of the big, graphically awesome, free-to-play games for Android are waaaay too easy. Honorary mentions: Apple Knight, OneBit Adventure, Labyrinth Legend. If anyone knows any more good games for Android, let me know.

There is a special place in development hell for game devs who create games with an unskippable tutorial!
I understand why most mobile games have a tutorial (they're aimed at casual gamers), but after playing games for over a decade, I know how to equip armor, click on the quest button, etc. I miss the NES days when games just threw you into the action and you had to figure out everything as you went along.
Also, it seems like half the games on the play store try to lure you in with anime girls. Cringe.

There is a special place in development hell for game devs who create games with an unskippable tutorial! A few years ago when I was looking around for different mobile games to play, I ended up leaving a string of 1 star reviews on various games for this very reason. If I'm still enslaved by the tutorial 10 minutes into playing it, I'm uninstalling and giving it that review, no matter how good the game is otherwise. Also, it seems like half the games on the play store try to lure you in with anime girls. Cringe. That's something else I refuse to play, no matter how good the game is. Anime artwork for the title screen is about it for me, in game anime artwork is always cringe city to me and I'm done before I start.

If I'm still enslaved by the tutorial 10 minutes into playing it, I'm uninstalling and giving it that review, no matter how good the game is otherwise. This is usually a sign that the game will be a repetitive grindfest with the monotony broken only by a series of microtransactions and a time-consuming crafting system. in game anime artwork is always cringe city to me and I'm done before I start. Strangely, I've loved Genshin Impact, which is very much an anime game. To be fair, a lot of it is cringey or overly-cutesy, but it's the closest you can get to Skyrim on mobile. I would prefer a game that had something closer to the dark 90s/early 00s anime aesthetic. I think anime is actually the best medium for telling fantasy/sci-fi stories, but the culture of it is so cringey (or worse) that I have a hard time saying that I "like anime." Stopped with Soma lvl90, on Hard Mode, 100% souls, Valmanway sword, Demon's Mail armor, Chaos Ring. :B I didn't even get close to this level of completion. I think I may put one of the mods that changes the castle layout on my phone and play it again. I need to play Symphony of The Night as well--I've started that game at least five times and never gotten past the first boss.

I need to play Symphony of The Night as well--I've started that game at least five times and never gotten past the first boss. Symphony of the Night for Android/iOS (just released this year) has some quality of life improvements compared to console or other ports. You don't have to mangle the D-pad to cast spells or transform. Just unlock, and choose and "cast" with 1 button push. (well, either buy the spells from the librarian or learn them yourself from mangling the d-pad just once) I also got a great GBA emulator for android. I never thought they'd be able to adjust the screen to a phone landscape without skewing it, but there it is - Aria of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissonance and Circle of the Moon in widescreen glory.

I was only able to get into Aria of Sorrow; I liked it so much that I couldn't handle how different the other two GBA games were.
I wish there were an Android game similar to Advance Wars. That was a fun game.

I found a rather spectacular retro game that scratches my itch. Onebit Adventure.
It has all the aspects of a dungeon crawl that I love, but as easy to play as Pac Man. Considering there's a 5 tier Prestige system, I think I'm going to be grinding on this for quite some time!

I think for me, Onebit was what I was looking for because its still an RNG base RPG, but I only need a free hand to play, and I can be half asleep and still navigate just fine. Elder Scrolls Blades on the other hand, being sleepy or trying to drive one handed, means dying at the end of the Abyss, or taking longer just to walk down a flight of stairs. HAHA!

three posts in a run you hate to see it alas:
I've wanted to translate my real life into a fantasy RPG for a handful of years now. I tried a few times (e.g., looking up different algorithms for leveling up, thinking of how to quantify behavior into some point system) but I never got very far. I've tried drawing a few fantasy-world maps to metaphorize what's going on in my life, though that wasn't connected to the RPG efforts. Shrug.

Last night my mom distracted me while I was trying to exit Genshin Impact and I ended up logging out instead of just exiting the game. I don't remember my username/password, and the "forgot password" option doesn't work for some reason. The fact that this is happening to me as an adult is quite amusing.
"Do you know how much I sacrificed!"
I'm frustrated, but even more frustrated at the fact that I'm frustrated about this trivial occurrence. A similar thing happened to me with Skyrim. I don't like replaying games that aren't named Zelda or R-Type.

Got my Genshin Impact account back and got it on PC as well.
I have a love/hate relationship with this game. It's got an awesome open world, the closest thing to Skyrim on my phone. On the other hand, it's very...anime. And not in a good way.

I made my old phone into a dedicated gaming phone. Currently have the following games on it:
Almora Darkosen Battleheart Contra Returns European War 6. Genshin Impact Great Conqueror: Rome Honkai Impact 3 Huntdown Knights of Agea KonoSuba: FD Lord of Heroea My Heroes NieR Otherworld Legends 2 Punishing: Gray Ravens Powerlust Shadow of Death Simple MMO Skullgirls Toziuha Night
I suspect some of these will be deleted due to UNSKIPPABLE TUTORIALS! Does anyone know a good fighting game for mobile? Or any good offline games for mobile?

After literally years, was finally able to get back into my main saved game on Skyrim via a fix that was just a Google search away.
Back to Tamriel for me.
